Anonymous said...: Is this nostalgic or what. I can still remember coming here in the mid to late seventies. If I remember correctly there was a Ladies Bar entrance in through the last arch. Wait a minute, there is a Chemist where there used to be a cafe...now wait the cafe is back a bit...I pawned my watch there once to buy...cough, cough...You caught a snap of the bay...I am looking forward to the beach shots...it is such a beautiful long walk...almost for miles up to Sunset Circle or in the other direction the corner and then the Station...thanks for these pictures they are a wonderful lifeline.

Interesting Muizenberg

- 1742 the Het Posthuys one of the oldest buildings in South Africa was built.
- 1795 The Battle of Muizenberg was a small but significant military affair that began and ended three months later with the (first) British occupation of the Cape.
- In 1882 the railway line, which for twenty years stopped at Wynberg, was extended to Muizenberg.
- 1895 the Muizenberg Municipality was established.
- 1902 Cecil John Rhodes bought as a holiday cottage and this was where he died.
- 1910 the library opened next to the Natale Labia
- 1911 the Muizenberg Post Office opened.
- 1913 a new railway station was built in Muizenberg.
- 1920 Boyes Drive was completed.
